Hello, we are Nadine and Manuel, the inventors of the Stitchies App.
Back in 2016, we took some time off and traveled through Australia and New Zealand. During this time, the idea for the Stitchies App was born in our minds. We planned to develop a digital toolbox for all those who sew professionally or as a hobby, and to create a platform for sewing enthusiasts to share and showcase their work simultaneously. We dreamed of a free and also ad-free app – an app made by sewing enthusiasts for sewing enthusiasts. We had a mission.
Driven by the fact that the sewing world was missing such a tool until then, and by the joy of a joint project in which each of us contributes what we can do best, we still love what we do. We don’t regret a single minute we invested in the app and the community, not a single weekend we worked through, not a single line of source code we wrote, and not even the fact that we started from scratch every now and then, even though we thought we were almost there.
In August 2018, after three years of development, the time had finally come. We released the first version of the Stitchies app, completely free and without any advertising. Since then, a lot has happened, more than we could have ever imagined!
From the very beginning, we have thought of Stitchies as a community project, in which everyone is called on to help build it and to tell us about feature wishes and suggestions for improvement.
Week after week, we receive countless messages from users with questions, problems, or suggestions. We take the time to respond to each one individually because we know that there is not just a username on the other end of the line, but a human being who deserves a reasonable, helpful answer. Each of us is a part of Stitchies, you too!
The community is growing and growing, which makes us very happy! Along with it, however, the challenges and responsibilities that we shoulder as the project initiators are also growing, together with the time and financial effort that is necessary to keep this project alive.
Stitchies Supporter Model
We asked you in a survey how you would like us to go on. From your messages we learned that you want us to continue and that you appreciate our work. Thanks to all of you who left us positive and constructive feedback! Based on your feedback, we’ve decided on a funding option for the project that meets the majority of your responses and that will hopefully not leave anyone feeling left out: the Stitchies supporter model.
It is intended to financially secure the further development and operation of the app without limiting its functionality. Everyone is encouraged to support the project within the context that he or she considers fair and appropriate. This is simple and fair. Stitchies can’t be financed with ads alone, that’s why we ask for your support as well. Of course, this can only work out, if you don’t rely on the assumption that everyone else is going to pay something…
As a Stitchies supporter you can
- freely choose what Stitchies is worth to you and
- how much and how often you want to support us.
- The supporter status can of course be cancelled at any time with immediate effect.
Depending on your chosen supporter status, you will receive the following benefits as a thank you for your support
- the good feeling of moving this project forward together with us,
- an ad-free Stitchies app,
- the possibility to add additional photos to the entries of your sewing diary and warehouse entries,
- the possibility to file care instructions for your fabrics,
- the possibility to share and save the images you’ve created in the app,
- the possibility to store your patterns in the cloud and link them in the app (for Dropbox and Microsoft OneDrive) and
- the possibility to sort your fabrics, haberdashery, patterns and files in folder as well as to archive them.
Many ideas are waiting to be implemented and together we can still achieve even more!
