Turn off Android’s battery optimization

The Android operating system comes with many energy-saving mechanisms that are supposed to ensure that the device battery lasts as long as possible. Unfortunately, some of these mechanisms also cause malfunctions.

One such energy-saving function is the so-called “battery optimization” for apps. Here, Android observes how often each app is used and prevents the execution of background processes if the app is not opened frequently (daily) by the user. Many device manufacturers have additionally extended the battery optimization with their own energy-saving measures. Unfortunately, these restrictive measures often lead to problems. This particularly applies to devices made by HUAWEI, SAMSUNG, OnePlus, and Xiaomi (more informationen). However, models from other manufacturers are also affected.

We recommend all users to turn off the battery optimization for the Stitchies app as we frequently receive inquiries about problems that can be traced back to it. We pay attention during software development that the app consumes as little energy as possible. Referring to the Stitchies app, the battery optimization increases the runtime of end devices by a few seconds per day, but creates problems on many devices (app crashes, malfunctions, missing notifications and in the worst case even data loss).

Users of HUAWEI devices are strongly advised to deactivate battery optimization in any case, otherwise the app will not run properly on these devices. In particular, errors can also occur here when loading and saving entries.

Disable battery optimization

Follow these steps to turn off battery optimization for the Stitchies app.
If you were made aware of the battery optimization via a dialog in the app that is still open, you can skip the first 2 steps and open the menu via the ” Adjust settings” button instead.

1. Open the settings of your Android device and go to the list of installed apps. Scroll down to the Stitchies app and tap on it.

2. Tap on “Battery”. Depending on the Android version, you will already see a selection for battery optimization where you can choose “Unrestricted”. If that is the case, you are already done. If this is not the case, now tap on “Battery optimization”.

3. Select “All apps” at the top of the screen and then scroll down to the Stitchies app.

4. Tap on the Stitchies app and select ” Don’t optimize”.

That’s it. The Stitchies app should now run smoothly on your device.
